The Story of Brunel Park
Brunel Park is located on the site of pioneering photographer Emile Brunel’s former studio residence and the historic remains of Le Chalet Indien resort and art colony. Our park hosts a plethora of native horticulture and serves as a tranquil, healing, inclusive, and reflective space for visitors and residents.
Emile Brunel devoted decades to creating expressionistic concrete sculptures inspired by Native American cultures. Built between 1927 and 1941, these remarkable works form a unique outsider art environment listed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places.
Today, the sculptures stand as a tribute to the Indigenous peoples of the region, including the Esopus Munsee/Lenni Lenape, and to the community that continues to preserve them. Brunel Park's mission is to care for these historic works while supporting the ecosystem, gardens, and public programs that bring the site to life.
